About Students' Council

Hey everyone! We are the Hwa Chong Students’ Council (HCSC).

Since its inception in 1973, the Council has strived to make the JC experience a blast for everyone, and Hwa Chong a home for all. We want to be the voice that represents you — the students. We pledge to embody the school’s vision, to Live with Passion and Lead with Compassion, serving Hwa Chong and her charges with unwavering spirit and honour.

How? Beyond planning Hwa Chong’s 7 annual flagship events (inclusive of Teachers’ Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, Prom, Open House, Orientation, Chinese New Year and Elections), we also stay connected with students, both past and present, through our social media page @HCUnite, and website (hcunite.com). You might also see us leading or teaching SODACHE (an abbreviation of “Song, Dance and Cheers”) — elements of school spirit conceived by generations of seniors who walked this campus before us. They connect every single batch of Hwa Chong students, from the College’s inception in 1974 up till today. At the end of the day, we hope to help forge our shared Hwa Chong identity in this vibrant community that we call home.

The HCSC thrives on creativity, innovation and adaptability. The Council has evolved and grown immensely, from humble beginnings of selling drinks to students in the 70s, to running our very own Welfare and Common Room today. What starts as a simple, untapped idea can blossom into a full-blown project, backed by a 48-man strong team, a variety of resources and the willingness to see it through. Each Councillor has the potential to contribute to novel initiatives, that under the right conditions, can become something much bigger than themselves.

The HCSC — by students, for students.

We don't just do, we do good.
