Humanities and Current Affairs Society (HACAS)

Do you…

Want to ignite a passion for the humanities?

Like a chill and fun community to discuss your favourite topics?

Enjoy talking about and sharing your passion for the humanities?

Seek to expand your horizons and broaden your knowledge about new topics?

If so, the Humanities and Current Affairs Society (HACAS) is the perfect place for you! It is an entirely student-led CCA, for the students, by the students. We organise a range of exciting activities, that focus on increasing our members’ knowledge and cultivating their passion for the humanities simultaneously. Our myriad of activities include fieldwork sessions around Singapore, quizzes, strategy games, dialogue sessions with distinguished academics, to external and self-organised field trips.

These activities are jointly planned and organised by the four wings — History, Current Affairs, Model United Nations (MUN) and Geography; Explore the annals of time and unearth humanity's legacy in History Wing, traverse diverse terrains and uncover the wonders of our planet with Geography Wing, stay at the forefront of global events and dissect modern issues in Current Affairs Wing and step into the shoes of diplomats and hone skills in the art of persuasion in MUN Wing. With combined sessions between all the wings occurring every week, there is much opportunity for you to learn from other talented individuals, allowing for greater interdisciplinary learning of the humanities. Not to mention, members even have the chance to participate in various prestigious and intellectually stimulating competitions such as MUNs (both local and overseas like Harvard WorldMUN, THIMUN, Singapore Model United Nations), Chancellor’s Challenge Shield (Current Affairs), International History Bee and Bowl, International History Olympiad (History) and International Geography Bee (Geography).

Apart from competitions, HACAS also focuses on empowering its members and enriching the community with a greater appreciation for the Humanities. Members will have various leadership opportunities in planning for and directing events like our biennial Model United Conference, the Hwa Chong Conflict Resolution and Inquiry which promotes academic discourse on international relations. The possibilities are endless, so what are YOU waiting for??? Do Join Us!
