About OESC

Listen closely, and you will hear the grinding of gravel (or the squelching of mud) as we trek through rugged terrain. Or perhaps the whizzing of wheels as we cycle past luscious green foliage. The water, rippling out in concentric patterns as we kayak through. The soft thump as we land on the bouldering mats below, after completing a full send. The sizzling of fire as we cook up a scrumptious meal using natural fuels…

But regardless of the activity, one sound remains constant: the joyous sounds of laughter and chatter, indicating the presence of a close-knit batch of 16. A small, but nevertheless mighty batch, tied together by a common love for the outdoors. As members of OESC, it is our hope to share this very love with others, all while gaining confidence in both hard and soft skills ourselves.

With our sessions being largely self-initiated, planned and directed, every member gets the opportunity to exercise their autonomy in defining and building the CCA; to grow as leaders through being ICs and facilitators for various events and activities.

We also organise large-scale events: the inter-school Outdoor Exchange Forum to connect the various JC, Polytechnic, and Secondary School Outdoor Activity Clubs around Singapore, and intra-school events such as Outlast – a one-day outdoor team-based adventure race. As COVID restrictions have finally eased, you'll get the opportunity to go on an overseas trip too!

Don’t worry if it all sounds a little daunting! Your batchmates will be alongside you every step of the way. Together, there’s no limit as to what can be accomplished - take it from us: the satisfaction felt with each CCA session or event successfully pulled off is unparalleled.

Lastly, a fun fact: 2 CCAs with rich traditions -- Tahan Mountaineering Club and Outdoor Adventure Club -- were merged to form OESC! In 2024, we will welcome our 10th batch of OESC members. If you love the outdoors too, come join our warm and dynamic family!

Achievements

OESC organises events yearly. Our keynote events range from the inter-school Outdoor Education Forum and intra-school Outlast.

On top of this, we place a strong emphasis on personal achievements and developments, accumulating numerous certifications like Level 1 Climbing and 1 Star Kayaking.

Pre-COVID-19, we participated in some inter-school climbing competitions and the E.W. Barker Challenge. In 2023, we participated in the National Orienteering Race. However, do note that competitions are not central to our CCA, and are optional.
