About Astronomy Club
Hwa Chong Astronomy Club houses a group of students who are passionate about Astronomy and would like to learn more about Astronomy and spread the joy of it.
The Astronomy Club was officially founded on 2nd January 1986 by a small band of dedicated backyard stargazers. The Club aims to promote the students’ interest in celestial objects.
2021 was a special year for us as our club celebrated its 35th anniversary. The pandemic did not dampen our spirits, as we had a pizza party as a CCA at night, and shared our love for astronomy with the school through open library sessions, online seminars and workshops.
The variety of activities we have engaged in has ranged from stargazing sessions, observation of planets and meteor showers and the moon to include astrophotography and lessons on the formation of the universe, black hole, pulsars, nebulae and the latest in space exploration by our own students or even Professors from NUS & NTU. The club has also been organising events to educate students as well as the public on astronomy. Events such as the annual competition “Astrigue” jointly organised by HCI & RI were pivotal in educating the masses on astronomy and enabling our club to grow in strength.
