About Touch Rugby

Hwa Chong Touch Rugby is an all-girls team made up of very dedicated members; a diverse group, with players from both sports and non-sports backgrounds, but ultimately driven by a fiery passion for the game. Led by our extremely capable and feisty coach Karen, every training session is as fulfilling as it is exciting! Our training sessions often push us to achieve more, challenge our limits and, of course, are filled with endless fun. Our team consists not only of the players and coach, but also our teachers-in-charge who are always tirelessly looking out for us, and our seniors from previous batches who come back to join us in training. HC Trug is a tight-knitted family, bonded by experiences both on and off the field, and a fun-loving bunch altogether!

About The Sport

Touch Rugby is a 6 vs 6 sport played between two teams on a field. Touch players do not tackle each other as in Contact Rugby, but instead, touch their opponents. (Think about it as a 6-on-6 game of catching but way cooler). On attack, each side is given 6 touches before a changeover (change possession of the ball) and a drop-ball is an immediate changeover. There are several other rules, but it’s easiest to learn the sport by trying it out for yourself! ☺

It is a sport that definitely tests one’s hand-eye coordination and speed. A sports background is not required, but more importantly, we value passion, resilience and teamwork!

FAQs

Is Touch Rugby violent?

Touch Rugby doesn’t involve any tackling of any sort so there aren't major injuries like dislocations etc. However, we are expected to put our bodies on the line for the team, so expect a healthy amount of scratches!

Do I have to be from a sports background?

Absolutely not! We were all from very different CCAs in secondary school, and these included UGs, clubs etc. Fitness and skill are key in this sport (things that can be trained over time), so as long as you come for training consistently, you can definitely excel at the sport!
