Tchoukball

About Tchoukball

Pass. Catch. Shoot. These individual actions, when executed with purposeful rigour, define and characterise Tchoukball, coupled with strict emphasis on the prohibition of physical contact and upholding integrity. As the fastest hand ball sport in the world today, Tchoukball boasts of highly intense gameplay. A rather foreign, and perhaps, intriguing sport, the curiosity of fellow Tchoukers-to-be, stemming from word of mouth or witnessing a match, have left them clambering to try their hand at it; Tchoukball’s popularity continues to climb to date, especially in Singapore as Singapore ranks 2nd in the world at this sport. Likewise, the growing reaches of the new sport, first created in the 1970s, have extended to influence Hwa Chong.

Passion. Determination. Diligence. Established in 2010, the Hwa Chong Tchoukball team started out as a tiny, yet tight-knit interest group. Taking into account the lack of resources —coach and court alike— our founders’ Tchouk journey was, but of course, a tumultuous one. Nonetheless, their burning passion and brimming commitment brought them well-deserved success. In 2011, barely a year after the team was formed, Hwa Chong emerged as Double Champions in the interschool A-division tournament. Their success, an embodiment of 自强不息, forged a legacy to be remembered.

Body. Mind. Soul. As in every team sport, the amalgamation of these three distinctive aspects provides the drive that fuels a Tchouker’s desire to excel: to overcome all odds and ultimately, to foster strong bonds with fellow teammates. In this highly competitive sport where teamwork is extremely essential, we support each other through thick and thin. Integrity has also, time and again, woven its way into the very actions of our team. In 2012, Tchoukball was finally recognised as an official CCA in Hwa Chong. With the guidance of our selfless coach, we have become a self-sufficient group with enjoyable on-court and off-court sessions.
